A Poem By Jorge Vazquez Jr: We Are Defined By Our Shadows

I'm a Mexican American amateur writer/poet with the dream of being professionally published. I come from the small town of Whiting, IN in between Chicago, IL and Gary, IN. Through the help of my high school librarian, Jean Lovasko, I have been published by small publishers and I have received an honorable mention award for the Art & Writing contest of the 2013 year. Even if I never become as well known as J.K. Rowling, Stephen King, or George R.R. Martin, I plan on writing for as long as I can. ~Jorge Vazquez Jr.

Shadows

We Are Defined by Our Shadows

We are defined by our shadows

Black outline silhouettes

They touch everything we touch

They describe us all the same

They are the boundaries that make us human

They are simple and pure beings

But they do not express color, religion, or race

They do not cause wars, genocides, and climate change

They may represent us as men, women, and children

They may show if we are skinny, fat, tall, or short

But they do not express us as gay, straight, lesbian, or bisexual

They do not show our age or our emotions

They are a representation of our personalities

They are always there when we need them

But they may not show if we are evil or good

They may not reveal if we are talented, lazy, or organized

A shadow does not represent our outer beauty

But it is a portrayal of our human beauty

We are defined by our shadows

Great vibrant photographs
