Three Poems By Dallas Gorbett: In Another World

Dallas Gorbett

Dallas's short fiction "Flittery" appeared in the Nov. 2014 edition of Indiana Voice Journal. He also had three short stories appear in a local anthology, Stories and Poems of the OLLI Writers. Although he currently lives in Mississippi, he feels his Hoosier sense of humor comes out in his poetry.

IN ANOTHER WORLD

I am tall, dark and handsome—
In some other world.
I have athletic ability
In that other world.
Over there,
I can paint, and sculpt,
And cook and sing.
In that wondrous world,
I can talk to strangers
Without tripping over my tongue.
But,
I like me.
I like me in this world.

ON ANY WEEK OF THE DAY

Friday the Thirteenth
Was a real Monday.
It came on Wednesday.

I stubbed my toe going to the john.
My electric razor lost its electricity.
The hot water was luke cold.
The breakfast milk had curds.
My iPad i-ploded.
The garage door was tired—
I had to help it get up.
Traffic was a jam-session.
At work, things went downhill.

Two days from now will be better.
It will be the Ides of March.

PARTING IS A PAIN

I’ll see you around,
Even if you are mostly oblong
And, kind of a funny square.

Bye. Take Care.
Even if she doesn’t want to go?
Even if she threatens to hurt you.

Tomorrow, Dude
Or, To Tupelo, Dame
Maybe, To-To-Tootsie.
Call me, Sometime.
Unless your name is Anytime.
Then call me Around Noon.

Hasta La Vista, Baby
Pasta De Bibbie,
Old white guy.

Bye,
Buy how many?
Bi-, two.
