Modigliani

I'm captivated by the girl with blue eyes
A stalk of grace
In a frameless painting
Calla Lily lines defined
Not straight
Angles strangely beautiful
With geometric shapes
When I see a Modigliani painting
I smile at his invention
Painted in somber hues
Earth colors
The ladies in his life
With almond shaped eyes
Elongated face
Swan neck
Perfections perfect flaw

Once Upon A Time

Tell me a bedtime story
Wrap me in a down comforter
Tuck me into the four corners
Tight in a blanket of security
Hide me inside an interior wall
Drown out the shrill sound
Of trumpets out of tune
Out of touch
Tell me a bedtime story
Love forever more
Sipping wine
Breaking bread together
At a sidewalk cafe
Near the Champ Elysee's
A riverboat ride along the Seine
Blood in the water
Flowing up stream
Against the nature of things
Scars of war leaving their stretch marks
Imploding within
Reality is a bitch
Tell me a bedtime story
Down the rabbit hole I go

Band of Gold

I am the ring that sits alone
A fourteen karat gold band
Never to be worn on your hand
You said I would get in the way
You needed to roam naked and free
On your mother of pearl keys
Through the decades of shower and shame
I played black and white ivories
Someone else lifted me from the draw
Put me on their finger for a long history
Of famine and war
I am the symbol you never knew
Living only in your dreams
Under your bed
A double exposure
Perfectly sized to fit in your life
But life put life in a head spin
Now I am naked like you
To roam free
Waiting for the last dance

Boogieman Dreams

Boogieman dreams
Of death row
Things that go bump
In the night
Hiding in my marrow
Boogieman dreams of heavy ornate draperies
Beautifully appointed mahogany furniture
A spiral staircase
Leading to dirty fingernails
My pillow drenched in sweat
With nobody left
To share the shame
