Without you ( For a beloved )

In your absence
I'm a city without a people

Aborted pregnancies
in sterile
uterus

Please return, for without you

My today and tomorrow sprawl like
a sheathe-less sword
impregnated with ageless rust

She Whispered Something ( To an Egyptian Lady )

She whispered something in my ears at the valley
of the Kings, but I did not
Hear her for the mystery of the place raped
me into jovial madness.

There was something she whispered in my
ears when I was watching
The Pyramids of Giza and Sphinx, but I did
not hear her, for I was
Busy enjoying the richness of these
man-built wonders.

She whispered something again when I was
scaling a cliff with a leathered rope
To examine Debra Damo Monastery erected
on a high plateau North of Aksum,
But the hard clapping of the winds made her
words lifeless in my ears.

I saw sunset exchanging love vows with the
crocodiles on the shoal of the river Nile
When she whispered something to me for the
last time, but I did
Not offer her my ears, for I was listening and
smiling over the marital
Dialogue between the whales, fingerlings and
waves.

Since then our love has become two parallel lines.
if you see her, tell her that I'm
Now ready to listen to her, tell her I'm waiting
for her by the bank of River Nile
Where we first met and where magicians from
Pharoah's temple worshipped
the sun rising from the shrine of her beauty.
