Visual Art by Charlene M. Brown

CHARLENE M BROWN FINE ART
Original Drawings & Oil Paintings

“I’m an artist because I’m greedy for life; I want to capture and preserve the significant moments that move me. When I draw or paint, I like to work from what I see. My desire is to discover and share the essence of what it is about a person, place, or thing that arrests my attention. It’s a great mystery how to do this using mere pigment on a flat surface.”

Charlene Brown’s love of the visual arts was nurtured from a young age by her grandmother, who was an artist, teacher, and kindred spirit. Throughout Charlene’s formative years, her grandmother encouraged her to experiment with various techniques and mediums, making each new project fresh and exciting and magical. Charlene went on to earn a Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts from Earlham College, and following graduation utilized her creative energies teaching art to children and young adults. The Renaissance Gallery in Carmel, Indiana, launched her career as a fine artist in May 2012.

Charlene’s sensitive portrayals of people and nature combine elements of realistic, impressionistic, and abstract techniques. Her artwork is inspired by a wide variety of past and present masters, including Joseph Turner, Nicolai Fechin, Andrew Wyeth, Robert Liberace, Casey Baugh, and Susan Lyon.

Art critic Brian Sherwin, editor of The Art Edge, expressed these thoughts: “Charlene M. Brown’s figurative work offers viewers an emotional powder keg. The visual power of her work is simply stunning to observe. Her images, when viewed collectively, bombard viewers with solid observations of joy and sorrow…revealing the essence of the human spirit.”

Charlene teaches drawing and painting to youth and adults out of her home studio in Carmel, Indiana; as well as working daily to hone her skills as an artist. Her award-winning work has been exhibited in various venues throughout the Midwest, and can be seen in the Hoosier Salon Gallery in Carmel, Indiana; the Brown Country Art Gallery in Nashville, Indiana; and on her website at www.charlenembrown.com.
