Dan Jacoby is a former principal, teacher, coach, and counterintelligence agent. He is a graduate of St. Louis University, Chicago State University, and Governors State University and lives in Beecher and Hagaman, Illinois. He has published poetry in Anchor and Plume (Kindred), Arkansas Review, Belle Rev Review, Bombay Gin, Burningword Literary Review, Canary, Cowboy Poetry Press-Unbridled 2015, Chicago Literati, and Indiana Voice Journal, to name a few. Denise C. Buschmann lives in Carmel, Indiana and is a freelance editor and proofreader. David Cunningham's compelling realistic paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums throughout the United States. In his meticulously crafted oil paintings, he combines traditional 15th century Dutch technique with contemporary ideas about space and composition. Through preliminary drawings, value based underpainting, and multiple thin layers of colors, David creates paintings that celebrate three-dimensional illusion.
Professor Cunningham’s current body of work focuses on the beautiful color relationships and amazing juxtaposition of shapes and textures found in stones. The paintings reveal the power, hardness, and permanence of its subject matter creating subtle narratives that resonate with something deep, primitive, and spiritual in all of us. Over the last three years, these paintings have received high praise being exhibited in over a dozen juried and invitational exhibits. Recently, he received best of show in Fort Wayne Museum of Art’s Contemporary Realism Biennial and in the Swope Museum’s Wabash Valley exhibit.

A poem by Deena Padayachee: "Injustice."
Deena Padayachee lives in Durban, South Africa. He is the author of a book of resistance prose poems, "A Voice from the Cauldron," which was published in 1987. His poems have been performed by the Natal Performing Arts Council and have been published in several international journals and the poetry anthologies. He has also won awards for his short stories.
This is the first time his poem, "Injustice," has ever been published. He wrote it in 1977 after anti-apartheid activist Steve Biko died during interrogation by South African police. "It was a dangerous poem to write at the time as it accused the Apartheid legal system of being unjust," Padayachee says. "It is the kind of poem that is still hated by those who love racism and apartheid."

Nicole Brooks grew up in West Central Indiana, and has returned home after more than a decade away bouncing around the South and the Pacific Northwest. She is a writer and dance teacher and works in marketing at Purdue University. Nicole has a degree in dance from Butler University in Indianapolis and also in creative writing from Purdue. After earning her master’s degree in journalism from IU, Nicole reported news and feature stories for newspapers in Indiana and Illinois. She is involved with the Lafayette Writers’ Studio.

Terri Winaught was born in Philadelphia and spent most of her life in Pittsburgh, where she works for a local mental-health organization and has a Masters in Education with a specialization in counseling. When not writing, she loves attending Pirates baseball and Pitt football games with her husband; singing in her Church choir; going out with friends for a meal or snack, and saying her favorite expression to people who are nice to her: "You should be cloned!"

Marcia, born in Indiana, grew up in a small Farming community located in northern Madison county. Since she was a small child she has had a compassion for animals in need and a love of Photography as well as the outdoors. She has been drawn to writing short stories and poetry since grade school, poetry being her favorite. She has written short fictional stories while in high school for the “Tartan” her high school literary publication. She also enjoyed working on the Yearbook staff in Junior high through 12th grade. Poetry slowly became her hobby and favorite release. Only since her Mother’s death in 2015 has she began to share her poetry. She is married with 2 grown children and lives on a small farm in Pendleton, IN where she has owned and operated an in home state licensed child care since 1984. Happy 3rd Birthday, IVJ! With the release of this, our 25th issue, we begin our third year of publishing Indiana Voice Journal. It's been a wonderful collaborative effort put forth by many creative and talented individuals--poets, writers, visual artists, editors, readers and supporters--our community. We've grown way beyond my wildest expectations when I humbly and yes, somewhat fearfully, published the first little edition just two short years ago. Thank you for writing "life" into these pages by contributing your wisdom, your wit, and your words.
