After receiving my MPA from Indiana State University I moved to Cincinnati to pursue a career in urban planning and City Management. After a rewarding 36 year career in local government I retired and pursued a personal interest in creative writing. The move from technical writing (memos, white papers, staff reports) to creative fiction was very refreshing. I have lived in Tippecanoe County since 1967 and while in school pursued a degree in History and Education. I currently belong to the Tippecanoe County Arts Federation Women's Creative Writing Group.
I have always found this area of Indiana to be rich in history, which is often passed over for the more romantic period of westward expansion later in the 19th century. As a frequent visitor to both the Tippecanoe Battlefield and Fort Ouiatanon the history of the area speaks to me. This piece came out of those whisperings. Advaitam Speaks Literary is an international Journal of Poetics and Visual Arts. We are constantly looking for unique and experimental poetry and works of visual art from different corners of the world.
Advaitam Speaks Literary Journal publishes four issues in a year, in the months of January, April, July, and October, showcasing the best poetry and visual arts submissions received by us. We are open to submissions year-round.
We welcome submissions by poets/authors/visual artists from diverse backgrounds and literary as well as aesthetic preferences. We admire all forms of unique hybrid and experimental poetry, collaborative writings, visual and graphic outpourings - anything that aesthetics can be capable of.
Rather than passive sentimentalism, we are more interested in artistic creations which actively respond to the dynamic world around us through imaginative brilliance, symbolism, strong imagery and metaphors guiding readers to experience reality from a new perspective.
We accept both simultaneous and multiple submissions. We may consider previously published works too. Hence, we request you to inform us promptly in case your submitted work finds acceptance elsewhere or your work is previously published somewhere else. We love people who are honest and we always give them a second thought. If you wish to withdraw a part of your submission, please mail us in advance.
POETRY : You may submit up to 3 poems at a time (max. 40 lines for each poem) .
ARTWORK : You may submit up to 5 pieces of any form of visual art at a time.
We try our best to respond to the submissions at the earliest.
If your work is accepted for publication, we will ask for non-exclusive publication rights. Duane Vorhees was born in Germantown, Ohio, near the Indiana border. He moved to nearby Farmersville when he was 10 and spent his adolescence there -- or, rather, his adolescence spent him! After high school he briefly attended "The" Ohio State University before graduating from Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio with a degree in American Studies. And then, predictably enough, he left Ohio for good (or bad, of course, depending on one's preference). He has spent most of his life abroad, mainly teaching in Korea and Japan for the marvelously redundantly named University of Maryland University College. Born a Hoosier, editor and English professor emerita Ellae Lawton has lived and worked in Manhattan and Florida and now lives near her daughter in southeastern North Carolina. Some of her poems have appeared in The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, Referential, Wild Goose Poetry Review, Iodine Poetry Journal, and When Women Waken.

Harry Youtt is a frequently published poet, essayist, and writer of short stories. He is a long-time faculty member in the UCLA Extension Writers Program, where he teaches courses and conducts workshops in fiction writing, memoir writing, and poetry. Janice Canerdy is a retired high-school English teacher from Potts Camp, Mississippi. She's been writing poems for decades. She writes: "I especially enjoy rhymed-metered poetry and get a kick out of writing parodies of the classic poems I taught." Her poems and stories have appeared in several magazines and journals, including "Light Quarterly," "The Road Not Taken," and "Better Than Starbucks." Her work has also appeared in anthologies. Her first book, "Expressions of Faith" (Christian Faith Publishing), was published in December 2016.
