Heath Brougher is the poetry editor for "Five 2 One Magazine" and co-poetry editor for "Into the Void Magazine." He has published three chapbooks: "A Curmudgeon Is Born" (Yellow Chair Press, 2016), "Digging for Fire," and "Your Noisy Eyes" (both published by Stay Weird and Keep Writing Press, 2016). He is a Best of the Net Nominee and his work has been translated into journals in Albania and Kosovo. He edited the anthology "Luminous Echoes," the proceeds of which will be donated to an organization which helps to prevent suicide/self-harm. His work has appeared in Diverse Voices Quarterly, Chiron Review, MiPOesias, Third Wednesday, and elsewhere. When not writing, he helps with the charity Paws Soup Kitchen which gives out free dog/cat food to low income families with pets.
An Unfortunate Truth
Love trumps hate
is not an
accurate state-
ment. This Universe
is vicious
in every which
way. The Universe
knows neither
of love
nor hate
and much less
could comprehend
the idea
one trumping
the other.
How Pride is Truly Found
No one is born proud. In order
to bring True Equality into Being
is to stop all the judgments,
identification and forgetting about
the way we were born into this world
and look not at race or gender or sexual preference
but instead into our Selves to see the Individual
within each and every one of us. Enough branding.
Branding is a way of imposing shackles on our Identity.
When we do this it will be
such a Glorious Moment
as the meaningless exterior perceptions
and Identification are wiped away
and the Truest of Individuality can begin
to bloom the most beautiful essence
ever known to Humankind.
Losing Light
Some days you
win-out in a big way
but most other days
if you don’t straight-out lose
you still lose
as that is now
one less day
on the calendar
one less ounce of light
before the darkness
completely consumes
engulfs everything
for good
and there
is no more
winning
or losing
to be had.
No more light whatsoever.
