The Shire Horse
His brittle mane
faded in the sunlight,
Worn out hooves stood on
the floor, hot as red coals
simmering in a blazing fire.
Scars covered his back,
The marks of being held
hostage in the constraints
of a human being with
no remorse.
Now he stood free –
without control.
Winds broke through
each tangled hair as he
galloped amongst the
fresh grass, free at last.
His brittle mane
faded in the sunlight,
Worn out hooves stood on
the floor, hot as red coals
simmering in a blazing fire.
Scars covered his back,
The marks of being held
hostage in the constraints
of a human being with
no remorse.
Now he stood free –
without control.
Winds broke through
each tangled hair as he
galloped amongst the
fresh grass, free at last.
