The Stillness Of Quiet Light
The distance between
here and beyond
even farther
this thing we call there
the separation
If simply to stop
to look or
to not speak
but to listen
as the silence listens
We are moved
by stillness
as if to know everything
is to remember
the beauty we have forgotten
Blue Waters The Sky
The oceans remember
us, moving
to the shore
waves and more waves
remembering
The sand is silent
like a still-breath
holding the ribs
a body of saline
and footprints
There are waves
that do not survive
their shallow ending
against the shore
exiled
in a stich of sand
and salt
I step
into the sea
and I am everywhere
a light wind, light touch
blue waters the sky
We come from this
and still
we are nothing
but this feeling
this moment
the end that begins
A Discourse In Rain
This day is chilled by pewter light
with an ever-pounding rain
seen from window to window
The floodgates are open
with reams of water running
like a discourse of wet paper
Lying low on my porch
a soggy cat looks at me
with suicidal eyes
Along dark spots in the garden
mushrooms stand side-by-side
like tiny people
In a quiet way
blade by blade the green growth
is drowning
Tucked in under the eaves
chubby morning doves
want nothing to do with cooing
Carried by a child, a blue umbrella
taking the beating
is sad enough
Suddenly an avalanche of rain
the wind unfolds its hands
and the child becomes a kite
